Introducing our Newest Partner ... Safer Building Coalition (SBC)

 

Mission

From their inception before the FCC in February 2012, the Safer Buildings Coalition has been at the forefront advancing the idea that wireless technology makes people inside large buildings safer.

When the public can use their mobile phones to call for help, be notified when there is an emergency, and know that emergency personnel can communicate inside the building where the emergency is taking place, we will have fulfilled our mission.

The Safer Buildings Coalition is an independent, non-profit organization focused on advancing policies, ideas and technologies that ensure comprehensive in-building communications capabilities for Public Safety and the people they serve.

The membership of the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) represents the most senior fire officials in the United States. State Fire Marshals' responsibilities vary from state to state, but Marshals tend to be responsible for fire safety code adoption and enforcement, fire and arson investigation, fire incident data reporting and analysis, public education and advising Governors and State Legislatures on fire protection. Automatic Fire Alarm Association (AFAA)

AFAA is a non-profit association dedicated to fostering and improving relationships, both within the fire alarm industry and among associated industries, including electrical, security, and emergency notification, etc., among manufacturers, distributors, users, authorities having jurisdiction, and others through education, research, and development of codes and standards.

AFAA’s mission as an industry advocate is to improve the quality, reliability and value of Fire and Life-Safety Systems. The Firestop Contractors International Association

The Firestop Contractors International Association is a group of contractors, manufacturer and associate members aimed at improving the reliability of installed firestop products.

Tested and listed firestop system designs are built at Underwriters Laboratories, Intertek, FM Approvals and other testing laboratories.

FCIA has worked to build standards for the proper installation and inspection of Firestopping.  FM 4991, Standard for the Approval of Firestop Contractors and the UL/ULC Qualified Firestop Contractor Program are management system based audits on the firestop contractors’ operations verifying that the contractor ‘does as they say they do’. 

FCIA also testified in support of the National Association of State Fire Marshals during updating the ‘Maintenance’ language in the International Fire Code, Section 703.1.

Fire Science Club at the University of New Haven

The Fire Science Club conducts weekly meetings and is active in arranging field trips; conducting safety activities on campus; working with fire safety and substance abuse programs; and doing community service projects in the area among other activities.  Some of this years activities include:

Dorm room fire safety demonstration, Cooking meals for homeless shelter, Fire prevention week fire safety education, Christmas tree safety demonstration, Spring Break safety tips, Public Safety Day, Fire Science Banquet. 

The Club also works with The Center at our Annual Campus Fire Forum and is leading the New Student Committee that will be communicating with student groups nationwide.

Common Voices

Common Voices is an Advocates' Coalition sponsored by the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA). These advocates have all been directly affected by fire. By bringing their voices together, the NFSA hopes to assist the advocates in their quest to ensure that others will not have to deal with similar tragedies. URMIA

The University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA) is an international non-profit educational association serving colleges and universities. Its core purpose is to promote the advancement and application of effective risk management principles and practices in institutions of higher education. URMIA represents over 1,400 individuals at over 500 institutions of higher education and 100 companies with members ranging from small schools and community colleges to the largest educational institutions.

 National Advisory Committee (Congressional Fire Services Institute)

The Center for Campus Fire Safety is honored to be a member of CFSI’s National Advisory Committee (NAC). International Residential Code Fire Sprinkler Coalition

The International Residential Code Fire Sprinkler Coalition promotes the health, safety and welfare of the public and emergency responders by supporting the installation of fire sprinklers in residential occupancies.With more than 100 international, national, regional, state and local supporting organizations, the Coalition represents fire chiefs, fire marshals, building code officials and other public safety interests who support fire sprinklers as a standard feature in new home construction.
